  7.     Even while a new frontier beckons -- an ABC-TV newsmagazine
  8. with DIANE SAWYER as co-anchor -- SAM DONALDSON has decided to
  9. return to his roots. Last week he and his wife JAN bought a
  10. 7,300-acre ranch in Roswell, N. Mex. Said the sharp-fanged
  11. Donaldson: "We're not speculating or trying to subdivide the
  12. area. We want a working ranch, not some fruff!" Donaldson seems
  13. to have developed his scrappy ways while growing up on the
  14. family farm in New Mexico. At the age of seven, he wrote, "I
  15. playfully shot out a front tooth of one of the Mexican workers
  16. with my BB gun." And when he was twelve: "I got a kick out of
  17. letting the horses out of their corral so I could chase after
  18. them on a farm tractor. Ride 'em, cowboy!"
